The First Step!
Before ever performing your first exercise session, you should always evaluate your physical readiness level. Having a personal trainer perform such tasks can be of great help, as they are trained to carry out these tests. The goal of exercise is to enhance your life, not cause any additional problems in the form of injuries and mental fatigue from uncertainty of what’s going on with your body.
How to assess and identify your physical readiness level. There are a series of questions which will give you your estimated physical readiness level.
“Are you currently following a resistance training program?”
“How long have you been following a regular resistance training program?”
“How many times per week do you resistance train?”
“How difficult or intense are your resistance training workouts?”
“What types and how many resistance training exercises can you perform with proper technique?”
Use the table below to identify your estimated readiness classification.

*If you are not currently resistance training but was following a regular resistance training program within the past four to six weeks, you could consider the answer to question 1 as a “yes” and you could answer questions 2 – 5 based on that recent program. The decision to equate participation in a recent program with participation in a current resistance training program is based entirely on a qualified professional’s (personal trainers) judgement regarding you as an individual.
