Obesity Program - Introduction
Imagine you are suddenly ripped from deep sleep by the intrusion of your phone’s blaring alarm. You attempt to resume your sleep by hitting the snooze button, but the sound cuts deeper into your consciousness. Work starts in 30 minutes and it takes 25 minutes to get there. You spring into action like a stunt double in a mission impossible movie. You don’t have time to cook, hell; your memory can barely recall the taste of a home cooked meal, but you know there’s a Dunkin’ Donuts right outside your office (of course you know that). You’ve been getting breakfast there everyday for the past 8 months. Same thing, every time. Two apple jelly filled powder covered donuts and one chocolate glazed donut with a large double shot expresso coffee to carry you through the day like a strong stormy breeze does a plastic bag. When the cashier asks “Would that be all?” You’re quickly reminded of your mistake! You didn’t order that bacon, egg, and cheese on a buttery crispy croissant for your mid morning snack. You take a glance at the analog clock on the almost empty office wall and like clock work, your belly reminds you that it’s exactly ten minutes til lunch. You can’t wait. Your belly is not an ally to hunger either. You push away from your desk while simultaneously thinking what you’re going to eat for lunch. The debate begins and quickly ends when you see your co-worker marching through the doors with a big bag of MickyDs, the sight of this brings you back to the time of Christmas past, Santa and his bag of goodies. Oh the joy! The day is coming to an end and strangely the only thing you can really think about is stopping by the bar on the corner and grabbing a couple of drinks before heading home. After all, it is happy hour and the deals are unbeatable; two drinks for the price of one! You’ve made it home after a long day, you grab the remote before you’ve even kicked off your shoes. You’ve been dying to start watching the new series of your favorite Netflix show. You grab the unopened bag of cool ranch Dorito chips and pour out a tall icy cup of mountain dew and binge watch episode after episode, don’t forget to refill that cup. It’s time for bed, you towel off after your warm shower and as you look in the mirror….. it hits you. “Wow, I’ve really put on a few pounds. How did this happen so fast?”….. You’re now obese.
